The sun will shine again

Updated: Apr 17, 2020

I’ve allowed myself some space to feel the more “negative” emotions like frustration, anger, worry, sadness as I feel it’s really important not to block these things out. Acknowledging them and giving them their time, allows me to process what could be triggering them.

But! Then when processed I try to look at reframing some of my thoughts. Yes right now I can’t use my therapy room to see clients and I don’t like that but! It does mean I can use the space to paint up an old bookshelf and take time to sort through all my counselling related books I’ve collected over the years.

Ok so I can’t see clients in my room face to face but I have created another lovely reading space to help my own growth and development as a counsellor.

I’m sure everyone has felt inspired this week by Captain Thomas Moore’s actions, words and character.

Today he finished his 100th lap live on bbc breakfast complete with a guard of honour.

His words and his nature have inspired so many people to donate money that I can’t write a figure on here before it keeps rising!

I think we’ve all had times during this lockdown where the clouds have felt heavy. Tonight came the official announcement we’ve been waiting for, 3 more weeks of lockdown.

We can all appreciate the importance of lockdown and value how much it will help against the spread of COVID-19. But i recognise it isn’t easy.

Some people may live alone, some may live in unhealthy relationships. It’s ok not to be ok right now. This is not just a physical health problem right now it’s also a mental health problem.

In the words of Captain Thomas:

"You've all got to remember that we will get through it in the end, it will all be right.

For all those people finding it difficult at the moment, the sun will shine on you again and the clouds will go away."

Stay safe, stay at home where possible, connect with each other in different ways, the clouds will clear.

If you need the space to process what’s going on but maybe don’t want to commit to counselling right now, a lot of counsellors are offering 1 off support sessions like myself. Please reach out.
